If you’re reading this and it’s past 12:01am EST on Monday, January 9th, 2012, then allow me to formally introduce you to the new (vastly improved) site for Corpse Run!  Huzzah!  If you generally don’t read these blog posts, I’m going to ask you to stick around for this one, partly to talk about some info on the site, but mostly to talk about the amazing guy who made it all happen.

On December 19th, I was sent an email from someone (named Bill) who had an interest in the strip and offered to assist me if I ever needed anything in terms of web development.  I replied, thanked him for the offer, and explained that even the most simple web-dev seemed alien to me.

The very next day he sent me a simple mockup of this site and gave me his contact info, saying that he’d be available all day and to get in touch with him if I had any questions.  Needless to say, I was totally floored; it blew my mind that a stranger would just drop out of the sky and start helping me no questions asked.  I spent the day talking with him, asking tons of (stupid) questions, and piecing the site together.

That night, however, I got really nervous.  I’m the kind of guy that gets really comfortable with routine, so the thought of suddenly changing everything gave me some real reservations.  I sent him an email saying as much, and for a moment, this whole project might have ended there.

But it didn’t.  Bill mailed me back, talked to me about my concerns, and essentially gave me the confidence to move forward.  I’m so glad he did.

Over the next week or so, we talked occasionally, got work done, and just this past week put the site live.  There’s more to the story I guess, but I don’t think I should get too detailed about everything.  I just want everyone who reads Corpse Run to know that the site that you see right now is the direct result of an incredibly awesome and generous gentleman named Bill who devoted his valuable time to help me.  Once the site went live, I was on the brink of tears thanking him for what he had done for me and asking if there was anything that I could do for him in return.

“The next time you see someone who needs help, help them!” he said.  (paraphrased, give or take a word or two)

I’d really appreciate it for everyone to keep that in mind and be on the lookout for opportunities to do so.  It would be incredible if we can snowball Bill’s act of kindness into something even bigger.  Also, if you happen to know anyone named Bill, be sure to say thank you, just in case it happens to be the Bill.  How neat would that be?

In terms of housecleaning, while the site address is still corpseruncomics.com, if you had a bookmark for corpseruncomics.com/index.html, you’ll get a “page not found.”  Don’t worry, nothing’s broken, just change the bookmark.  If you are an RSS subscriber, THERE IS A NEW RSS FEED THAT CAN BE FOUND AT THE TOP RIGHT OF THIS PAGE!  So… look for it!  It’s right up there, look!  I promise!  If you are a forum member, pretty much everything is the same, but you will need to re-upload your avatars.

Other than that… holy-moley you can comment directly on comic pages now!  Neat!  Something to keep in mind, however, is that if you are a first time commenter your comment wont show up immediately.  For the time being, users first comments will have to be approved.  Annoying?  Yeah, a little, but I have it set that way in an attempt to weed out spam.  So if you post a comment and it doesn’t show up right away… don’t worry!  The moment I’m back at my computer I can approve it and any future comments of yours will show up right away!

Oh, and one last thing… Corpse Run is now totally 100% GoDaddy free!  I feel real proud saying that, especially after all the hassle that they put me through last week.  The domain is now registered by Namecheap, where a super amazing employee named Ilya assisted me with the transfer.

That’s all for now!
