I’ve been waiting to use this strip since the end of March, but haven’t gotten around to it due to a combination of a desire to stay topical with gaming news and simply not feeling it just yet. This morning, thankfully, I felt it. I felt it after coming home, drinking with my roommate, and eating a lot of doughnuts.

I just had to look up how to properly spell doughnuts.

Before I really get into the newspost, I just want to leave a little spot here for my friend Gale, whose comic strip, Patbird and Galesaur, is totally awesome. She and I are survivors of a shared college class or two, and she is just one of the many friends of mine who are more talented than I’ll ever be. So… check her comic out! DO IT!

Anywho, I got another fun customer call recently. A middle aged lady (it always seems to be middle aged ladies) called, screaming from the moment I said “hello.” She purchased a TV that she was told had built-in wifi, but according to someone she was just on the phone with, was not, forcing her to purchase another product to make it so.

I asked her what model TV she got, at which point she, as if participating in a screaming match, exclaimed “SAMSUNG.”

Samsung, as I’m sure you know, is a brand, not a model. I repeated my question and asked her to look at the box. It was a UN46D7000. I quietly explained that that TV was in fact wifi built in.

“THEN HOW COME THE INTERNET DOESN’T WORK?! FIX IT FOR ME NOW!”

I told her that I couldn’t troubleshoot this over the phone, and asked her if she’d like me to send someone out to do it.

“I WANT IT WORKING NOW, TELL ME HOW TO MAKE IT WORK NOW!”

I repeated that I couldn’t troubleshoot this over the phone, and asked her if she has referred to the manual to ensure that she set everything up properly.

“I DONT WANT TO READ THE F*!^ING MANUAL, WHAT ARE YOU, STUPID?!”

She hung up on me. Now, normally I feel like people would get pissed off at being treated this way. I sometimes am. What bothers me the most, however, is that I really wanted to help her. I really wanted to get her TV working that instant.

You never really know what someone needs their tech for. Maybe it was her 5 year old child’s birthday and she wanted to stream Toy Story 3 on Netflix to make him happy. Maybe she was at home sick and in pain and uses the web as an escape.

Sure, maybe (and probably) she’s just a bitch who treats people like garbage, but it’s always the thought that every once in a while, if something doesn’t work the way it should (TV, computer, video games, etc.) it could ruin someone’s day, be the buzzkill at a party, or just be an all around disappointment. There’s nothing that makes me more upset than someone else being disappointed; someone who has high hopes that aren’t just unfulfilled, but fail in spectacular and embarrassing fashion. So I try to do the right thing as much as I can.

Just in case, you know?

Finally, no one sent any art in this week! Boooo! I really want to encourage participation here, so I’ll send out the call to arms again: Every Sunday, I’d like to put up fan drawings in Kat’s Korner, and I can’t put anything up if you don’t send anything in, so… send me some stuff! Just in case you missed the contact page up top, my email is [email protected]
