Corpse Run 850: Controlled anger
Very rarely do I go from super hyped on something to super bummed in less than a minute, but the Pokemon: Let’s Go games are one of these situations.
A more or less remake of Red and Blue for the switch? HECK YEAH I’M GONNA BUY THAT.
…but then I hear that you can’t use the pro controller with the game.
That’s weird, I guess, but I suppose I can just use the joycons in the little controller grip-oh you can’t do that either, it’s motion controls with the joycons or a special pokeball controller that you’d have to buy separately if you want that.
I took a stroll to the Switch subreddit, but that was a bit silly. Plenty of folks were complaining about the control issue, but plenty more seemed to shill for Pokemon and defend the decision.
Stranger still was the fact that the fanboys then proclaimed, “if you really want regular controls, you can play with the joycons in handheld mode!” and presumably sat back, arms crossed and smirking as if they just blew my mind so hard it’d be described as me getting “TOTALLY DESTROYED/WRECKED” in a YouTube video title.
I’ll just have to mirror comic Alex here and say IF YOU ALREADY IMPLEMENTED A TRADITIONAL CONTROL SCHEME FOR HANDHELD MODE WHY CAN’T YOU USE THE PRO CONTROLLER FOR THAT?
Totally lame on GameFreak’s part. I would play it in handheld mode, but then I couldn’t stream it, so… that kind of sucks. Removing functionality stinks, especially when it’s foundational, basic stuff.
Also, what’s up with the Nintendo Switch subreddit defending every little thing even if it’s absolutely stupid?
I felt a little awkward using the word “fanboys” a moment ago since I didn’t really think that was something that existed nowadays, but here we are I guess.
Whyyyyy?
“use the joycons in the little controller grip-oh you can’t do that either” I don’t know the controls, but why? I played Zelda that way and for the motion controls parts (ball puzzle, arrows) you can tilt the whole controller without issue.
You’re going to have to ask GameFreak or Nintendo about that one, but it certainly seems that they’re limiting control options in an effort to get folks to by the Pokeball controller.
But you can’t turn the system on or off with the Pokeball controller so you need to get up and physically turn off the system. The game blocks the pro controller from even connecting to the Switch so you can even have that next to you to turn off the system.
They’re not that bad and they’re only used to facilitate the pokemon Go style pokeball throwing. Also there is nothing special about the pokeball controller that would imply they’re trying to “get folks to buy it”
There’s a bit of misconception. It’s not that you can’t use the controller in the grip thing (as far as I know). It’s that the entire game runs on a single joycon, as such, you’d really have no way of putting the controller into the controller thing to use it. At least I assume anyway, considering that there’s absolutely no mechanisms or anything in the controller holder… it’s literally just a piece of plastic to slide the controllers into…
That said, while I am a pretty big fan girl of Nintendo… I don’t see any real issues with this. The game is entirely structured towards people who played Pokemon Go, and so it utilizes similar systems. If you don’t want to play a game like that… why buy the game? I’ve watched enough of the gameplay… The game is not a remake of Red/Blue/Yellow, it’s a totally different game with the appearance of Red/Blue/Yellow.
for me, I just actually unslot only right joycon for Zelda motion puzzle (while disconnect both at once) because all of motion controls needed are on right joycon.
I think it’s been confirmed they will implement the same “portable” controls (with no motion) in non-portable modes with a patch since some disabled gamers went very vocal about this thing (and it’s just stupid to begin with anyway).
It’s a misconception that playing it handheld is more traditional. Pokemon catching in handheld mode makes you move the whole console to aim your throws – kind of like Pokemon Go in AR mode.
Sure, but the Pro Controller also has tilt controls built in so it’s more than capable of being compatible. There’s no reason to exclude it as a controller option.
