I’m sure by now you guys have heard about the riots in London, so I’m not really going to touch too much on that. However, the fact the the government is considering the shutting down of social networks as a means to stop the riots is more than a head-scratcher to me.

Their reasoning is that through communication tools like Facebook and Twitter, the young and unruly across the pond are able to organize their protests/looting.

In a sense, they are right.

On the other hand, I’m pretty sure that riots took place before facebook existed, because… you know… there are other ways to organize. The internet is merely a communication tool, shut it down, and there are other ways to get the word out.

Fliers used to be pretty popular, I hear.

For the 99.9% of the population that isn’t rioting however, well… you just restricted their freedoms, and I’m sure they’ll be pretty pissed.

There’s a reason I don’t throw stones at beehives.
