Corpse Run 427: Eggciting
Before we get to the regular post stuff, a quick note: I finished up that “How Applejack Won the War” animatic that I’ve been posting bits and pieces of in Kat’s Korner! It was a lot of fun to make, and I hope you get a kick out of it!
If you haven’t heard the song before, you can find it in it’s original format here. It’s by Sherclop Pones, the fantastically hilarious duo that’s behind the supremely amazing Friendship is Witchcraft series. Check out their YouTube page!
Ok, regular post time!
Last week featured Kingdom Hearts, which I had never played before despite the fact that it was released in 2002. You regulars probably weren’t surprised that I was lampooning a twelve year old game, but Final Fantasy IV… that came out in 1991.
Well, I’m twenty-three years late, but here’s a FFIV strip!
Somewhat bewilderingly, I had never had the pleasure of playing the game, but now that I have, it’s easily in my top three favorite Final Fantasies… the plural of “fantasy” is “fantasies,” but it this sense I feel like “fantasys” makes more sense…
…proper nouns or something. Jackie, you’re a teacher… if you’re reading this, let me know if Final “Fantasys” is the way to go here.
Anyway, my favorite is FFIX, and I am totally blown away by how much inspiration it took from FFIV.
I’d list the similarities, but doing so would spoil stuff, but what I can say is that FFIX basically lifted all the major thematic elements from FFIV’s plot, plus specific parts of battle music, plus designing towns based on certain FFIV locations, plus the language quirks of a particular race, plus… a lot of stuff.
I guess having a thief as the main character of FFIX was a tongue in cheek decision.
So yeah, FFIX, FFVIII, and FFIV… you are the best Final Fantasys…ies..
That I’ve played, anyway.
So, proper IV, and not the US SNES one, RIGHT? (So, the Playstation one that came with Chrono Trigger would qualify)
That aside, now I want to know which Fantas(ys/ies) you haven’t played, so I know what couldn’t be ok the list.
IV was pretty great, I’ll not deny that.
The particular version of the game was US FFII, but that’s just a rebranded actual FFIV. As for the ones I’ve played: 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 (only did a month of it, I wasn’t a fan), 12, and 13.
No 1, 2 or 5. Well, 1 was fun in that “you can screw yourself horribly right from the start” sort of way (party of 4 black belts!) and apparently 2 had some weird, stats go up as their used mechanic, so one could just attack their own party members for massive def boosts early on (woo 1-shot mechanics)
The us version of 4 was a little different from the Japanese release, in that there was only a single “heal” item for all status effects, vs different items for each effect (poison, stone, blind, etc.) Aside from that I don’t recall much else being different. I do recall there were 2 versions of the Japanese game (one was simply titled Final Fantasy IV EasyMode) but so long as we’re not talking about EasyMode, we’re good (it was supposedly easier than the US one)
My personal fav of the FF’s will probably always be VI. It was the first I played/watched being played, and something about the huge world, steam power vs magic power, music, and general abundance of stuff to do/find made it stick with me.
final fantasy X is and allways will be my fav game i once spent two weeks playing it on the ps2 around my grandparents house, two weeks of non stop playing i got so far… only problem was i didnt have a memory card so i couldnt turn off the system or i would lose my progress, which inevitably i did… fun times 😀 now i have the hd version on my ps3 😀
No memory card?! I’d be terrified during boss fights!
you know an egg ambushing you is one of the less weird things i ever seen in a rpg as mcuh as i hate to admit that.
“You got attacked by a blue skinned hippie. If you hit him with a base ball bat for long enough, I’m sure he’ll go back to normal” ~Earthbound Logic
It’s ‘Finals Fantasy’, actually.
Your animation of the song makes it even more dark, especially the orphan transport.
Don’t underestimate the eggs bro!
I am restraining very hard from going on the usual blood-rage-fueled rant that I usually spout when the subject of Friendship is Witchcraft is brought up…
So I’ll just say that the songs rock but the show has the humourous potency of what comes out of the business end of a mule’s most useless organ.
OH MY GOD 9 IS YOUR FAVORITE TOO?!
…i wuv you
Maybe I should actually finish 4 one of these days… Are you doing it on Twitch by any chance?
