Corpse Run 497: Doubling down
LIVESTREAM UPDATE:
The next livestream will be this Friday, March 6th at 7pm est! Get ready for doodles! Get ready for chatting! Get ready for Disney music! I also haven’t shown a full Applejack… progress report(?) in a while, so I’ll show that too!
You guys suggested that I take a stroll through my unplayed Steam games in order to pick out something new to play after the doodle is done, so this week we’ll be playing…
JAMESTOWN!
You can view the stream here or here.
See you then!
END LIVESTREAM UPDATE!
Rich and I started playing Tales of Xillia 2 this week and my excitement level is sky high. Xillia was an excellent game, and even though the Tales series has pumped out stinker sequels before I can’t imagine they’d be able to ruin things too badly.
I hope.
Xillia 2 has gotten off to kind of a weird start. There seems to be a lot of “hey look at this cat, isn’t it a silly cat?” humor, and the driving force of the story at the moment is that our lovely hero has suddenly taken on the burden of a Twenty Million gald debt.
That’s a lot of gald.
From a practical perspective ToX2 uses acquiring gald as a means to progress the story: make payments at specific times and main character Ludger can move to a new zone. I’m fine with that.
What I’m not fine with is how the debt was acquired.
Ludger sustains a serious injury in the early going which would have been fatal if not for the quick work of a doctor…
…or so the doctor claims, anyway.
Sure, Ludger was probably hurt… and the doctor probably fixed him up… but we don’t know that with any certainty.
Heck, Ludger wakes up in a bar when he is told this information. If I ever woke up in a bar with no memory how I got there and there was a guy telling me to sign a bill for twenty million dollars claiming he saved my life, I’d be a little skeptical.
Oh well… gotta pay off that loan!
I haven’t played it myself, but the consensus seems to be that Xillia 2 is definitely better than the first, so enjoy it!
I still need to get through Xillia 1. My fiancee and I play all the Tales games together, but being as busy as we are (and all the other stuff we do together), sometimes we go for long periods without playing the game. We’re still on our way back to Fennmont in what I presume is still the first arc of the game, just leaving Sharilton after *SPOILERS* Lord Cline dies and Milla and gang are captured. I’m already sensing Alvin is the character who’s going to betray us again and again… Tales games aren’t very subtle.
Can I just say that the accessory system in Xillia 1 is SO fun? We had a dagger strapped in Milla’s cleavage for a good few hours, Jude has a dragon permanently attached to his head, Rowan is the cool old guy with sunglasses, and we’re very focused on making Elize as adorable as possible.
I know nothing about the tales games, but your comment has made me much more interested. (Any game that let’s you stick sunglasses on your party has SOME style)
The accessory system gives you a TON of options for character customization. Practically every sidequest rewards you with an item that you can apply to any and every character, whether it be sunglasses, stuffed animals, bunny ears, knives or a thousand other things. You can attach the items to any body part and adjust its position, rotate it, resize it and change its color, allowing for an infinite amount of combinations. You can have a dagger attached to a character’s hip like the game intends, or you can be juvenile like us and put it in some cleavage or have it sticking out of their crotch. It’s so great.

I wonder how many insects it would take to pay off that loan…
I’ve played through the game and done (just about) everything. Its very much a two steps forward/one step back from TOX. Lots of cool changes, but some things are just frustrating. Yes there is a lot of cat humor, including the ability to get a costume item that is just a cat sitting on your head.
