Corpse Run 625: Will you REmember us?
Up at camp!
…but a little about Resident Evil 7 and my frustration. At the time of this writing, the RE7 demo has only been made available for the PS4, leaving PC and XB1 players unable to have a chance at experiencing what is by all accounts a fantastic demo.
The internet is flooded with videos of people playing it and talking about the apparently multiple endings.
Seriously this demo sounds like a game in and of itself and I reallllly want to play it. I get that the content in the demo won’t be in the finished game, but even so, it sounds so fun.
…and I can’t think of a good reason not to release it on the other platforms that the game will be available for! Maybe they had a deal with Sony…but for a demo?
That’s weird, right?
Right?!
Anyway, camp camp camp!
I’m not sure about the PS4, but previous PS system didn’t share the same programming/software architecture as PC and Xbox(which, unshockingly, share near-identical platforms). Developing anything for both the PS and either PC or Xbox is essentially creating two entirely separate games. Sure, art assets, plot, and so on can be shared freely between the two, but the core programming cannot. It is possible, therefore, that either the PC/Xbox development fell behind schedule, was always planned to be behind the PS4 development, or that they simply didn’t want to waste the resources needed for an extra demo on the Win32/Win64 platform.
Now, on the other hand, it would have made much more sense to develop the demo for PC and Xbox first, since they DO share an architecture. However, as the RE series is historically a PS series, obviously they wouldn’t do that despite how much more sense it would make.
Well, from what I’ve heard, they will release the demo on the other platforms at a later date. My guess is that during Autumn, it will become available on PC. Hopefully
PS4, here I come!
More likely?
Developer: “Why are we releasing this demo only on one system at first?”
Publisher: “Three reasons. First, developing the demo for a single system will take less time away from main-branch development and create a better experience for the people we show it to at E3. Second, we want to show off the VR, and Sony’s VR is releasing first.”
Dev: “And third?”
Pub: “Sony threw a big bag of money at us.”
I think Sony has been trying to grab as much exclusivity as they can recently, and it isn’t hurting them any (side note: the ps4 demo is only if they’ve got psplus too (which anyone who’s playing online does, but it is worth mentioning)).
I mean, the resident evil demo is great & all, but the Kojima reveal was pretty big too (especially after his split with Konami). It’s always interesting seeing how this stuff pans out.
Since they’re doing the VR mode for Res7 exclusively on the PS4 they definitely have a partnership going on with Sony.
