Corpse Run 198: Legends of the weaker teammate
There’s a really good chance that I’m grasping at straws with this one; if you’re either a bit younger or older than I am, you might not be familiar with the Nickelodeon game show Legends of the Hidden Temple.
LofHT would pit multiple two kid teams against each other in elimination games with a Mayan/Aztec/Whatever theme in order to earn the right to enter the Hidden Temple and locate a lost artifact, winning them the grand prize (usually a vacation somewhere). Now, in order to make it all the way to the final round, a team will generally be significantly more athletic than its competition.
However, there will almost always be one teammate that is more physically gifted than his/her counterpart. Oddly enough, the lesser teammate ALWAYS goes first into the temple, and will more often than not cause the team to lose the grand prize.
It used to drive me nuts as a kid.
So, easter was yesterday, and while I was home, I unfortunately don’t have anything fun stories to report. I ended up cutting my cousin’s hair, which was strange I guess, but I held the trimmer like I do my pens/pencils, so I was accurate enough.
Or I destroyed his hair… I guess it depends on your perspective. Eep.
Yes…I know this all too well. The lack of common sense on that show was astounding. I remember screaming at my television that the monkey’s body was facing the wrong direction and…and you couldn’t…it…you can’t…YOU CAN’T PUT THE HEAD ON IF THE BODY IS ON WRONG!!! DX
The silver monkey led to many a hair pulling moment for me. Additionally, sometimes there would be an OBVIOUS path for a team to take to get the artifact, but they instead would take the longest, most convoluted path and run out of time. Why? WHY?
You forgot not living in your country. I have never heard of this show. Instead, I grew up to What Now. That had a creepy puppet and lots of ooze. Doesn’t seem nearly as interesting now that I think back.
Haha, sorry. Sometimes I forget that I’m lucky enough to have a diverse audience. If you’d like to watch a full episode, here’s a link to a 3 part youtube compilation of one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBnotUsXhBY
I believe they do this on purpose, both kids get a chance to run through the maze (Assuming the first kid knows what they’re doing and don’t get lost/stuck in the first 2 rooms), and the odds of them actually having to give out prizes is reduced. It’s a win-win for the producers.
Yeah, I never knew how they decided who would be first. Often times the more athletic of the pair would never even get a chance of entering the temple. When I was a kid, me and my twin sister would often plan out who would tackle each room the best if we were fortunate enough to make it to the temple. Part of me is really bummed that we never had the chance…
Eh… Never interested me.
On your cousin’s hair, how’d he want it?
It was just a trimming, nothing totally special. Back when I was a camp counselor, we used to do something called the “B5 barber shop,” which was where counselors gave each other haircuts on the porch of B5, the oldest camper’s cabin. I figured that with my absolutely legitimate haircutting experience, I’d be fit for the job =P
Considering how much my mother and sister were begging me, it might be time that I get a haircut as well. There’s hair everywhere at the moment.
You comic is not accurate Alex. The Purple Parrots almost never won. From Nickelodeon Wikia page:
“In a points system orchestrated by a fan, an entrance to the temple was worth one point, and a temple victory was worth three points. The Green Monkeys were first with 48 points; the Silver Snakes were second with 45 points; the Orange Iguanas were third with 37 points; the Blue Barracudas were fourth with 34 points; the Red Jaguars were fifth with 32 points. Last place belongs to the Purple Parrots with 20 points.”
Haha Rich, everyone know that despite the low scoring of the purple parrots THEY ARE STILL THE BEST TEAM IN THE HISTORY OF THE LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE.
Lavos = Rich, by the by, the dude with the earring I took out with pliers.
I actually have a Blue Barracudas shirt. Because they were the best team.
