Corpse Run 173: Magical memories
Losing save files is never a pleasant experience, doubly so when it’s a friend who erased them. Before you wonder, no, nobody deleted anything of mine. That isn’t to say, however, that it hasn’t happened before.
It’s just a subject that I’ve wanted to touch on but haven’t had an opportunity until recently. Also, ponies.
In actuality, it is not Dan, but I who is playing a Tales game at the recommendation of a good friend. Tales of Phantasia, to be exact. It’s been a long time since I played a SNES game, but after a few hours of messing around I can gladly report that I feel like a seven year old during summer vacation so… mission accomplished!
A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I once stepped in a sticky-goo mouse trap, complete with a dead mouse. Well, once again mice and I are doing battle. For about a month or so, Jackie and I had been coming across mouse droppings and nibbled through food containers; I decided to buy a trap, baited it with a chocolate cookie and peanut butter, and proudly left it in the kitchen.
Nothing.
Now, it’s not even that the trap hasn’t caught anything… since I laid it, the mice have disappeared. I’d say into thin air, but I saw one of the little things and I can confirm that it was pretty fat, rendering it unable. We haven’t found any open food containers, no mouse droppings, they’re just… gone. We couldn’t believe that the mice would just up and leave, so Jackie came up with a plan.
She put a bowl with some soda in it in the middle of the floor surrounded by flour. The idea was that the mice, attracted by the sugars, would try to get at the soda, and in doing so leave tracks in the flour. The next morning she went into the kitchen and discovered…
Nothing. Well, nothing other than the flies that decided to commit suicide in the soda bowl, anyways.
If anyone has any information or ideas on how to catch mice, please let me know as Jackie and I aren’t doing so well. If at all possible, I don’t want any ideas that would be fatal to the mice, as I’m a little girl when it comes to killing things. Also, ponies.
*helps friend get all aeons in Final Fantasy X*
*goes to save*
*overwrites own 200 hour save from habit of saving in the same slot every time*
NOOOOOO!
I got it back though. After 200 hours work.
There was this one Gamecube RPG called Baten Kaitos that was pretty assy (in my opinion, anyway. One thing that I always like to do is have completed game save files. I accidentally deleted my BK save, and then forced myself to play the ENTIRE GAME OVER AGAIN just so I could have a completed save file. Uuuuugggg. It drove me up a wall.
Nice to know I’m not the only crazy person. Heck, I even kept that FFX save after giving away both copies to friends in the US (I’m a PAL gamer and we got the enhanced International version of FFX). Some day I might even get to return to it.
For the mice problem, if you have the money, time, and patience, I’d say get a dog.
My family used to have a cocker spaniel mix, not sure what he was mixed with, but it was short.
He caught a lot of the mice that would appear in the garage and go after his food bowl.
Of course he kept catched and killing the birds that would come to the yard, but it was no biggie.
catching I mean.
About to beat Pikmin, little sister deletes the save.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
That same thing happened to me with an old Mega Drive RPG called Shining Force. I had maybe three more battles left, and was on the last day of the game rental.
Many years later, she’s a mother, and I’m an uncle that spoils his nephews rotten with lots of sweets before handing them back. Revenge!
You know when they say “Don’t turn the power off or remove memory card while saving is in progress”? Yeah it’s a pain… Was saving up Red Faction on PS2, almost at the end of the game, and power went out while I was saving, lost my whole memory card… Dark Cloud save on the moon, gone, FFX at the end, gone, GTA 3, gone…. all gone T-T Most painful moment ever!
I’m sad that you have to use ponnies to feel funny 🙁
I’m sad that you have to dislike something simply because it references MLP.
I could be thinking about this too hard but, is Princess Celestia saying that Dan is the douche or that you are for not learning about friendship?
Haha, changed the wording to make it clearer.
I don’t supposed you realized you were pretty much referencing this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Vs.#Main_characters
Main reason I bring it up is because it, like MLP, is on the Hub.
Haha, this is the first I’ve heard of that show. I watch MLP on youtube, so I haven’t encountered any of the other hub shows. Is it worth checking out?
Yes. Yes it is.
For the mice, try using just peanut butter, rather than a chocolate cookie and peanut butter.
If someone did that to my Tales of Symphonia save files I’d be so pissed and I’d be playing it over again just to get the game beaten file again. I have over 200 hours of playtime on that game and beat it I don’t know how many times.
On the mice topic there are two things I know to work. One is move a cat that loves torturing mice in and they will leave quickly. If that option’s a no go then big gobs of peanut butter on simple traps works most of the time. You should put them underneath and behind things. They seem to catch on when the traps are out in the open and are less suspicious when they seem hidden.
Oh Jesus, I remember Phantasia. Such fond memories of that game. Hope you enjoy it~
Also: Fluttershy is best pony.
Just cleared out Moria, so far so good. Glad to hear that the Fluttershy train is going strong!
No complaints from anyone here. I had my PS3 and my Wii crash on me within three years of each other. You want to talk about losing some save data… try every game that you’ve ever played on one console. At least with memory cards you have the potential to have your data separated. Not I. Every. Single. File. Gone.
*ahem* I’m not bitter though. No sirree. Not me. I picked them back up, and have been slowly trying to get my progress back. I think not having control over the loss of saves is worse than having some control. Even if your friend didn’t know any better. Haha.
But I digress. Tales of Phantasia is a great game. Not my favorite, but definitely great. Another wonderful comic… minus the ponies. 🙂
I think I’d just break down and totally lose it if all my data got deleted like that; you are a stronger man than I.
I am a little surprised that you did not use trollestia.
RIGHT HERE BITCH!
Buy a mousetrap.
Put peanut butter and fluff on the spring.
Works every time.
Damn it all. Turns out you, Alex, were the final voice that eventually turned me. I had two others I could resist, and then, shortly after this comic came out… bam, I’m watching, and loving…
Also, Fluttershy, ALMOST best pony imo… I’m more of a Pinkie Pie guy meself.
Yeah, I was pretty skeptical about the show at first. I’ve gotta say though that once I started watching, it was impossible not to fall in love with the characters. Definitely a show worth watching and loving, I’m thrilled I was able to help you warm up to it!
My best friends in childhood did this to my Pokemon Red game when it was still new to me and I told them they could play as long as they didn’t save -_-
This reminds me of the horrors of saving over game files for an N64 game called Hybrid Heaven. Multiple times. Many hundreds of hours to get them back because I insisted on having a save file for each difficulty, and then saving over one of the newly completed files…
