END LIVESTREAM UPDATE!

Despite the fact that I am often really careful when planning out military conflicts in Civilization V, I severely ignore the logistics of post war peacetime.  In my most recent blunder, I made peace with Sejong while a quarter of my navy was located inside a bay of his.

The moment the treaty was signed, those units became trapped inside, unable to exit the area because the exit waters belonged to Korea.

This isn’t even the first time I’ve accidentally trapped my units; my exploring ships and scouts have been trapped merely due to border expansion.

Not once or twice, mind you, but as a matter of routine.

I am the world’s worst political leader.  Hooray!

As mentioned in the last post, my old college roommate Chris was in the city for the weekend.  From midday Friday through just a few hours ago we had a video game variety festival at Rich’s, stopping only to briefly sleep, or go out to get coffee.

Some stuff that we played: Nidhogg, Towerfall, Madden, Fifa, NHL something or other, Persona 4 Arena, Soul Calibur 2, Spades, more Nidhogg, some more Towerfall, even more Nidhogg…

…but the real star of the weekend was… well…  what’s the best way to use a 55 inch HDTV?  Playing NES games of course!  Gold Medal Challenge, Die Hard, Metal Gear, Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, Cheetamen II (holy heck that one was awful)… and then the game show games: Jeopardy! Children’s Edition, Wheel of Fortune Starring Vanna White, Family Feud… truly the best games ever made.

I mean, take a gander at how amazing Jeopardy! looked:

Beautiful.

A note regarding Jeopardy!.  The way the game is coded, it doesn’t matter if your answer contains inane stuff so long as the right answer is in there.

For example, when given something to the effect of “This many inches are in a foot,” I was given full credit for responding “What is 12 Angry Men?”

When Chris had “Winny the Pooh is this kind of animal” he followed up with “Manbearpig.”

Riveting.

There was also a short while where every answer we gave included smegma.  Can’t go wrong with smegma.

In short, good weekend!
