LIVESTREAM UPDATE:

Hey guys, many thanks for a fun stream this past Friday!  There will be a minor break in streams for the next couple weeks as I will be on a ski trip this weekend, and on a business trip the following weekend.

The streams will start again after that!

See you then!

END LIVESTREAM UPDATE!

For reasons beyond my understanding, I had the urge to pick up Resident Evil 6 where I had left off, completing the Chris and Jake campaigns.  After first completing the Leon mission a few months ago, all I have left to finish is Ada’s story…

…I really hope completing the four campaigns doesn’t unlock a 5th, there’s only so much RE6 a human can handle.

I bet I said something similar the last time I mentioned RE6, but it’s absolutely mind-blowing how a game with such high production value could have such bad controls, such awful storytelling, such… lack of consistency.

For example, in the Jake campaign (which I decided to play as Sherry, because why the hell would I not want to play as an established RE character who hasn’t been seen in over a decade?) a huge monster chases Jake and Sherry over the course of five chapters.

In the earlier chapters, it’s established that said monster is super strong & resilient: they cannot damage it with conventional weapons, and even when using unconventional weapons such as a drill used to bore tunnels through mountains, the monster doesn’t die.

Also, there are a few sequences in the early chapters where merely contacting the monster causes instant death.

Towards the end of their story, Jake punches the monster a few times, phasing it enough to allow him to… super punch, I guess… it into lava.

HOW DOES PUNCHING IT WORK WHEN ROCKETS AND GRENADES DID NOTHING?  HOW IS JAKE SUDDENLY SO STRONG WHEN BEFORE THE MOSTER COULD INSTAKILL HIM?

Also, the lava doesn’t actually kill it, they still needed a magnum shot for the final hit.  WHY DO BULLETS SUDDENLY WORK LIKE A CHARM?

I mean, it was weakened by the lava… so I guess I could forgive the magnum thing… but the punching?  WHAT?

All of this makes looking back at RE1 so confusing.  Wesker went through all of the trouble to produce a Tyrant, which was taken out with some bullets and a rocket, but he treated it like it was the cat’s meow.

If only Wesker could have seen the “Chasing Jake and Sherry forever” monster…  He would have loved it.
