After two weeks of ignoring the new save file, I got back into the FF8 run this weekend, just left off at the end of Disc 2 on Sunday night.

…Sunday night being the moment I’m typing this.

I’mmmmmm pretty tired, so I’m going to bed, will fill this out more in the morning!

OK IT’S THE NEXT DAY NOW AND I’M UP AND HAVE SOME COFFEE AND WHATEVER.

One of the weirder things in the already incredibly weird Final Fantasy 8 is the card game, Triple Triad.  The game itself isn’t strange, but there are a few things that don’t make sense:

  • The cards have built in, real world magical power – Through Card Mod abilities, playing cards can be transformed into items/tools/medicine and can then be changed into pure magic.  This is strange and is the equivalent of getting a Pokemon Weedle card and then turning it into shotgun ammunition.  Or turning a Scyther into a lead pipe, and then turning that into 10 fire spells or something
  • The company making the cards make some very specific cards – Sure, the common cards are of regular monsters that are walking around.  Rarer cards, though, a bunch of kids from a random military training institution?  The daughter of a military general?  The daughter of a military general’s DOG?  Who the heck is deciding what new cards to mint?  HOW DO THEY KNOW THESE PEOPLE?

It’s much more believable to have Squall & Co. going around pretending that there are Triple Triad cards with their faces on it and they’re the best cards… and if anyone questions them, they’re all like, “NUH UH, IT’S REAL”
