END LIVESTEAM UPDATE!
As far as I’m aware, I’ve never actively tried to impress a girl by showing off any talents or gadgets or what-have-you. Part of that stems from me not possessing any neat talents to show off, and the rest comes from the fact that I’m a puny noodle armed dude that won’t be wooing anyone based on my physical prowess.
That said, if I tried to impress someone, I’d have about as much success as Link has in the comic above.
A note on the item Link uses in the strip, the beetle: it’s awesome. It’s one hundred percent totally useful and awesome. By tilting and rotating the Wii-mote, you guide the little mechanical bug around the map, picking up items, knocking switches, cutting ropes, dropping bombs, etc. Even when faced with a puzzle that doesn’t require the beetle, you can use it to safely scout around the area to search for a solution.
There is one problem, however. In my short time with Skyward Sword, there have been a number of occasions where I needed the beetle to hit something and…
It. Just. Couldn’t. Reach.
As the beetle flies around, it makes a little put put noise that, upon failure, struggles and dies out. There’s probably some poignant message that can be learned from watching a little, overmatched underdog giving its all, only to fail just at the last moment but…
…watching the beetle in its death throes is too amusing.
Not sure if it’s relevant, but I think there’s certain areas that time the beetle out quicker than usual
If I had my wish, the beetle would have unlimited range… a man can dream…
It feels like you’ve been praising so many of things I outright dislike about Skyward Sword these past few comics. The Beetle is about the least intuitive to control, slow, annoying item in any Zelda ever.
Why do you push the A button to activate it when other times the A button is for putting things away? Why is there an item where you have to reposition your hand into a more comfortable position to use it effectively? Why does it take so long to play the little animation for takeoff and return? Why is there no meter to better judge distances?
Effin’ hate the Beetle.
Haha, different strokes I guess.
In regards to the A button launching the beetle, every item that I’ve come across so far other than bombs (beetle, slingshot, bellows) are taken out/put away with B and used with A. The bombs are still taken out with B, but are thrown by flicking the remote, or rolling them underhand.
It seems like the game is really consistent in it’s button usage.
I do agree on the length of the takeoff/return animations, however. Those could definitely have been shorter!
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You get upgrades for the Beetle later on that allow for longer as well as faster flight.
