Corpse Run 562: Breakfast of Champions
CORPSE RUN FOURTH ANNUAL COSTUME CONTEST:
Totally forgot to do this earlier until someone posted about it in the comments! Halloween is right around the corner and Jackie and I wanna see some costumes! Jackie will be rocking out another well put together outfit this year while I… I have no plans this time around… maybe I’ll come up with something.
Anyway, send a photo of your costume to [email protected] with the subject “Costume Contest” to enter! I’ll have some new buttons made up for the winners.
So… yeah! Show us your Halloween best!
In other news, I’ve played a bit of Zestiria and so far my feelings are pretty mixed.
On the plus side:
- Super pretty
- Very silly humor
- Snazzy theme song
- Generally engaging cast of characters
On the negative side:
- Frame rate capped at 30fps for some reason
- Battle system is pretty meh
More on the battle system: In the past, Tales games would have HP and TP (to use special attacks/spells). This game has HP and SC (to use any kind of attack). SC can be gained back by guarding and dodging, which I have no problem with.
What does kind of stink however, is that many attacks that used to be in the special attack category are now “castable” through directional use of the standard physical attack button. With what used to be special attacks are still the same, but there’s not a whole of linking/combo ability on a single character basis.
The battles still flow… but I don’t feel as though I have absolute control over what’s going on like I’ve had in the past. The camera has not picked super friendly angles all the time either, but so it goes with these type of games.
The super big plus thus far? Edna. Edna is a riot.
Everything you said about the battle system is my experience with Graces, which everybody seems to love. I hated the fact that I couldn’t link A-artes to B-artes (maybe that was just Asbel), and I hated that you had to stop after every three or four attacks to recover CC. It felt slow and clunky throughout the entire game, and because the story was kind of meh and the characters were mostly boring, I ended up not caring about the game at all. The bosses are what really got to me, though. I have no idea why they felt so frustrating compared to previous games, but they were.
I still get confused when somebody praises the battle system. I feel like I missed something, but all I know is that I played through the entire game and didn’t have much fun at all.
Rich and I tried out Graces during our Vacation earlier this month and were a little shocked at how bizarre the battle system was. Totally bummed that they used elements of that in Zestiria. I still have high hopes for the game, but it’s quality will have to lie in its narrative as opposed to the gameplay, unfortunately. Who knows, maybe I’ll come around to the battle system!
Edna is just plain awesome. I just love her trolly attitude~
About the 30 FPS cap, hopefully people can release a mod to fix that later. And I still like the battle system, although I would have preferred the old TP system.
Here’s hoping! I wanna see some smooooooooth action!
I want it too, but probably not going to happen. Zestiria has their animations and game logic tied to frame timing….really old and really archaic way of doing things.
Basically means uncapping the FPS can make the game go crazy and make battles super difficult.
If you have it on steam there’s a link to analysis of the port by… someone. He said he tried to make a mod for raising FPS cap, but it’s not hard, as all animations run along with FPS, so by removing the cap everything just speeds up.
I love the game up until now. The system is very different and I must admit I don’t like how they changed martial artes. The clunkiness gets less clunky with ability to make combos longer with chain blast. Actually the system has a lot going for it(most of it being basic RPS sytem though). I think the system will only get better as battle actions are unlocked.
I also have a lot of issues with camera, especially during battles inside dungeons. Or anywhere near any wall.
Edna rocks!
It totally kills me when the camera is like, “you know what would be awesome? If I was placed in such a way that you and the enemies are vertically stacked. That would rock!”
