Corpse Run 335: It’s all about the green
In reality I wouldn’t make a big deal about someone else picking Yoshi in Mario Kart 64.
I probably wouldn’t even make a small deal about it.
That said, I really do prefer Yoshi; in a game where you’re constantly knocked around by random shells and explosions high acceleration/speed is a great combination. Who needs the benefits of a heavy character anyway?
Players who actually know what they’re doing, I guess… I’m not very good at Mario Kart; Richard routinely kicks my butt when we play it.
…and when we play Kirby’s Dream Course… and Smash Bros…. and Mario Tennis… and Future Cop: LAPD… and pretty much every video game ever.
I’m also the dead weight in Gunstar Heroes…
Jeebus.
Back on topic, character selection in Mario Kart was never a problem while growing up; my sister always picked Toad, who if I recall correctly (and I might have this totally wrong) had the fastest acceleration but had a slower top speed.
Who were your go to guys? Not necessarily in Mario Kart, but any racing game/fighting game/etc?
Finally, a quick video from Saturday. As a part of my job, I slap together slideshows at the end of each session for the kids to watch. In order to make these, I spend a lot of time running around with the camp’s video camera. While hanging around the tennis courts, my friend Laura (who doesn’t appear in the clip), took the camera and turned it on me:
Fun stuff right there.
Yoshi as well, but I used to pick Toad when me and my sister played Maio spinoffs. She was the Yoshi.
*demonic voice* Not anymore.
Mmmm longpig bacon…
I would play Yoshi in Mario Kart. I usually pick Samus in any Smash Bros. game, though.
Never really played Mario Kart much, but my usual pick for Smash Bros was Link. There’s probably better choices, but I never really learned how to play Smash Bros either and I like the Zelda series
It’s not like I win ALL the games. We are pretty evenly matched in Call of Duty and Street Fighter and I’m sure you’d kick my butt in Madden.
And you aren’t dead weight in Gunstar Heroes. I often rely on you to give me time and space to use my homing-fire weapon since I can’t really move that much with fixed shot. It only seems like I’m more effective in that game because I sacrifice maneuverability for power. For your set-up, it is inverted.
I’d also like to point out that we wreak havoc in Borderlands.
To answer your question, here are my go to guys by game:
Mario Kart 64- Wario
Super Smash Bros- Kirby
Super Smash Bros Melee- Link
Super Smash Bros Brawl- Ike
Mario Tennis- Daisy
Street Fighter IV- Guile
Mario Strikers Charged- Diddy Kong
Yoshi’s the fastest.
“Till the smell of bacon fills our noses” LOL!
Hmmm… gotta think on dis one.
Mario Kart 64 D.K.
Super Smash Bros Pikachu
Super Smash Bros Melee Roy
Super Smash Bros Brawl Ike/Sonic
Street Fighter HD something something II DeeJay
Street Fighter 4 Gouken…or Dan…that’s right…DAN
All the games I can think of…
Rich easily kicks my ass in like all freaking games now. So fah on him. My last possible hope might be NHL ’94, but we also never play against each other in that because it’s incredibly stressful.
Luigi. Always Luigi or Baby Luigi for the Wii Mario Kart. Hell, in almost everything involving him except for Smash Bros. I am Luigi. Smash Bros. I am Kirby or Fox.
Also, always try to be York, if that counts, on War of the Roses.
Super smash bros (on emulator): Fox
Super smash bros brawl: Kirby (although I also like Link, Samus or Marth)
Battle Arena Toshinden: Duke (which had a special attack neither me or my brother knew how to counter)
Worms 2: team TEAM17MicroProse
The Elder Scrolls: a Khajiit, because I like playing a thief
Civilization IV: Peter the Great (as my name is Peter)
Age of Empires 2: Celts, because Woad Raiders
Black and White: the ape, because the cow kept eating my people and the tiger was an idiot.
Pokémon: water-based starter
The Battle for Middle Earth (1 & 2): Elves, because Silverthorn arrows
Rollcage: Ria (Always)
And that’s all I can think of at the moment
I’m always Peach… Dunno why… But 99% of my wins were as Peach…
In the SNES version of Mario Kart, I always played koopa, because he had the smartest AI in the game and the easiest way to eliminate that was to play as him.
In Mario Kart 64, I used to always pick Toad as a kid, but then discovered how much fun it is to play a heavy character and shove others out of my way. Wario has a good balance of speed and weight, so now I always play him.
As to the later releases, I don’t care for them enough to have played enough to pick a favorite character. …Please don’t shoot me with a red shell…
