LIVESTREAM UPDATE:
Due to the holidays this week, there won’t be a stream… sorry about that! We’ll most likely start the stream up again the following week.
See you then!
END LIVESTREAM UPDATE!
Mario Kart 8 is super fun. Judging by the fact that the last handful of strips have been Mario Kart 8 related, this probably doesn’t come as much a surprise.
MK8 online is also super fun, more so than playing against the computer. Unfortunately, varying internet connection speeds are cruel mistresses, messing with my head when playing in tight races.
There is nothing as frustrating as appearing to have won a race, only to see that first place has been given to a player that, on my screen, shows up twenty feet behind me. I’m fully willing to admit that I don’t really know the how & why of why that happens, so if anyone with the relevant knowledge knows, please inform me!
Quick shout-out to the viewers on Twitch this past weekend, by the way! I had a hankering for a Tales of Symphonia run, and was aiming to do it all in one sitting. Ten and a half hours later, having just beat the boss at the end of Latheon Gorge, my body finally crapped out and forced me to stop.
I finished up the final hour and a half on Sunday. It was a lot of fun, and I hope the folks who were watching enjoyed it as well.
There was even one guy who watched for eight hours on Saturday, that’s pretty amazing!
You guys rock!
Lag is the slow death (or in many instances, the highly delayed then fast-forwarded at obscene speeds death)
It sucks when it’s a close race, but feels even worse when someone doesn’t move for the first half of the race, then blows by everyone & finishes a solid 20 seconds before whoever got second.
Which makes using items kind of a crapshoot!
wait, were you doing a stream. BUT THE ONE ON FRIDAY WAS THE LAST ONE. T.T
By “last stream of the year” I mean the regularly scheduled Friday streams with drawing/games.
Anytime I find myself with nothing to do/done with work, I try to do some informal, game-only streaming on my Twitch channel. Whenever I play on Twitch, I’ll usually send out a tweet! Maybe I’ll see you next time!
okay. that makes sense.
When you lag in MK8, your position just gets delayed on the screens of the other players in an attempt to smooth out any issues with late data; avoids people teleporting around the race track at random unless they’re on reeeeally bad internet.
This creates the illusion that you’re ahead of someone when in reality they’re ahead of you on their own screen.
The only thing the final ranking at the end cares about is the exact time you finished, which ignores the lag issue; someone crossing at 3:05 on their screen to your own 3:07 is going to place ahead of you even if lag made them appear to be getting a 3:12 on your end.
I like that I’m learning, but I’m still sooooo salty!
