I’ve got to say… I had a lot of fun making this one.  I’ve had a hankering to do a black and white strip for a while now, so I was thrilled once I finally had the opportunity to do so.  Also, writing corny narration is super fun.

The genesis for this strip was a little weird.  On my laptop I have a txt file where I jot down comic ideas whenever they happen to pop into my head.  In the middle of the night I woke up with an idea and had to quickly write it down before I forgot, but my computer was off.

Turning it on takes about half an eternity, so I grabbed the nearest piece of paper and wrote:

Guard ‘miranda rights card’

“Let me guess, someone stole your sweetroll.”

When I awoke the next morning, I realized that I wrote that on top of my copy of my tax return… excellent.

Anyways, that was sometime last week, and while I enjoyed the idea it felt kind of lame; there just wasn’t enough for a strip.  Fortunately, while I was in the shower thinking about what I was going to eat for dinner the noir part popped into my head and changed the original idea completely.

In short, I no idea what I’m doing.

It’s 11:40pm at the moment, and I just got back from seeing a baseball game with Rich and Simon.  Everything was fun and awesome for nearly the entire time, but something really rubbed me the wrong way at the end of the game.  There are a number of security guards that, as a part of their job, check that people are sitting in their correct seats.  Is it annoying?  Sure, but hey, it’s not their fault, they’re just doing their job.

As one of these ticket security people went down one of the asiles, a man sitting right in front of us started booing her and complaining about what she was doing.  On her way back up, the dude suddenly changed his tone, and pretending to be sweet as a newborn babe asked “Hey, what’s you’re name?  I wanna call the managers and tell them what a good job you’re doing!”

The lady appeared genuinely flattered, gave her name, and went on her way.  The man turned back into an asshole and said to his friend, “I’m gonna call the managers and tell them that she sucks,” followed by some colorful language.

Come on dude, don’t be mad at her just because she’s doing her job, and certainly don’t call her superiors to make her look bad when she did absolutely nothing wrong.

That guy probably isn’t used to (or has never been) “the little guy.”  What a jerk.

Finally, as some people on the forms have mentioned, things are kind of quiet there so… let’s try to make it louder!  Check out the forums here!
