I played the first Bioshock on the 360 back in college and generally had a good time with it.  The atmosphere was fantastic, the… atmosphere was fantastic, the atmosphere… was fantastic.

Really, the only thing the game had going for it was its atmosphere, but it was so strong that it carried the otherwise mediocre game.

Bioshock Infinite was on sale last week for about seven bucks, so I figured why not.

I handn’t played Bioshock 2 and wasn’t sure if that would take away from the experience, but so far that doesn’t seem to be the case.  If I had to choose what makes Bioshock Infinite strong so far, it would be the following:

  • Atmosphere
  • Atmosphere
  • …atmosphere

…hmm.  Basically Infinite is the same as the first Bioshock, just up in the air instead of under the sea.  The combat feels largely the same, the magical attacks are largely the same, the feel itself is largely the same.

Not necessarily a bad thing, I was just hoping for a little more evolution on the gameplay side of things.

Otherwise it’s pretty fun so far.
